Mycorhiza are fungus living in symbiosis with the plant’s root system. They stimulate growth, particularly in poor soil, because the fungus retains moisture longer, thereby improving the absorption of water and nutrients by the roots. In exchange, the fungus draws from the roots the carbon it needs to survive.
