Aeration is a very important practice used in lawn management. The method consists of piercing the top level of soil using an aerator. Aeration helps promote root growth by making soil less compact and increasing its oxygen content. It also stimulates microbial activity and reduces thatch buildup. Aeration can be carried out in the spring and/or fall. Even if the soil is not compact, aerating it once a year can improve root growth, water infiltration, and the absorption of nutrients. |
